About the Caddo/Womble Ranger Districts

Covering nearly 310,000 acres, the Caddo & Womble Ranger districts comprise the south central and south eastern sections of the Ouachita National Forest, directly west of Hot Springs. The Womble district also borders the southern side of Lake Ouachita, which is completely surrounded by National Forest lands, and is one of the cleanest and most beautiful lakes in the southern US!

Other popular attractions include the Little Missouri River, the Ouachita River, and the vista from Hickory Nut Mountain. Hiking trails, among others, include the Little Missouri River Trail, the Athens-Big Fork Trail, and the longest loop trail in Arkansas, the Eagle Rock Loop.

Numerous campgrounds dot both ranger dstricts, such as the Albert Pike Recreation Area, Crystal Campground, and the Clear Fork Group Camp, built by the CCC. Many float camps are also available along the Ouachita River.
