Directions: From Clarksville, head North on AR Hwy 103 for approx. 8.6 miles. Turn Left/West onto AR Hwy 164, and go approx. 3.6 miles to FR#1408. Turn Right and go about 2 miles (staying on pavement), circling around to the other side of the lake to either the campground or day use area.

About Horsehead Lake

Located along the southern foothills of the Ozarks, bordering the Arkansas River Valley, lies Horsehead Lake. This 98-acre lake is a popular small fishing lake, and is cooperatively managed by the USFS and the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, who also provided a boat launch ramp. Horsehead is primarily recognized for its catfishing.

A campground offers overnight visitors 10 different campsites to choose from. Sites can accomodate camping trailers/Rvs up to 30 feet in length, but no hookups or special ammenities are avaialble. During the on-season, the campground also offers a bathhouse with hot showers, and drinking water is also avaialble.

The in the day-use portion of this recreation area, a large, grassy swimming beach is provided, plus 12 picnic sites, restroom facilities, and a playground.

The boat launch ramp is located across the lake from the campground, and although there is no wake limit on the lake, boaters are asked to operate smaller motors or trolling motors. Horsehead Lake is also a popular canoeing and kayaking lake as well. Aside from being a popular catfishing lake, other species include largemouth bass, bluegill, and redear sunfish.
