About Mount Magazine

At 2,753 feet, Mount Magazine is the highest point in Arkansas. Rising between the valleys of the Petit Jean River to the south and the Arkansas River to the north, Mount Magazine State Park sits atop a plateau that was once an ancient sea floor. With sweeping views of broad river valleys, deep canyons, and distant mountains, this is truly a photographer and outdoor enthusiasts delight.

During the 1800s, settlers came to this region and farmed the area. Later, cabins were built atop the mountain to cater to those who came up here for recreation, to relax, and to escape the summer heat from the valleys below that the higher elevation could afford to offer.

Mount Magazine State Park is a great place to enjoy sightseeing, study nature, and explore the mountain. It has become a popular destination for outdoor sports and extreme adventures, including rock climbing, rappelling, hang gliding, mountain biking, horseback riding, backpacking, and ATV riding. An ATV guide service is available at the park. Mount Magazine has also become one of the state park's most dramatic locations for rock climbing.

The park offers overlooks, hiking trails, a picnic area with restrooms, pavilion, and a visitor center with exhibits and a gift shop.

For those seeking camping opportunities, 18 campsites are offered; two modern campsites, and 16 tent sites.

The Lodge at Mount Magazine features 60 guest rooms, a conference and business center, the Skycrest Restaurant, game room, fitness center, and indoor heated pool. Its location atop the mountain provides breathtaking views of the Petit Jean River Valley below, as well as Blue Mountain in the distance. Forty-three guest rooms are offered with balconies, and seventeen have spa tubs available.
