It is a great walk for families with children and strollers. Just follow the gravel road that begins at the north end of the parking area. Pine Ridge Trail

    The Basics
  • Type: Hiking
  • Length: 1½ miles
  • Difficulty: Easy - Moderate
  • Time: 1 - 2 hours
  • Requirements: None
    Description
  • If you are looking for a slightly more challenging hike, this trail is ideal. Two trailheads are available for this hike; one is behind the old stone picnic shelter, and the other is located near the naturalist's office. The trail does not make a complete loop, so if you plan to park at one end and hike the 1.5 miles, you will nedd to walk another 3/10 of a mile along the road to return to your vehicle. Most people start at the picnic shelter. The trail starts steep, but once at the top, it levels off, making the climb worth it. Plus, the views of the park are great from up here! The trail also leads through the Montauk Upland Forest Natural Area. Designated in 1979 as a special native ecosystem to Missouri, the 40-acre upland oak and pine forest also features many dogwoods, redbuds, red maples, and hawthorns. Truly a beautiful hike in the spring or fall.
