Missouri Trail

    Description
  • This is a short hiking trail that circles the outer edge of the campground area. It passes along or thru a wide variety of habitats, including glades and open woodlands. The trail is marked with orange arrows.

Mooner's Hollow Trail

    Description
  • Following the narrow and steep valley of Coonville Creek, this trail is named so because of the activities of past moonshiners in the area. The trail is part of the Coonville Creek Natural Area, and features clear waters, open woodlands, and even a waterfall. It is marked with blue arrows, and begins and ends in the picnic area.

Pike Run Trail

  • Difficulty: Moderate - Strenuous
  • Time: 5½ hours - Overnight

    Description
  • Traveling through much of the 2,101-acre Coonville Creek Natural Area, this trail takes a deep look into a landscape remnant of the early Ozarks. The trail is divided into two loops; a 6.7 mile southern loop, and a 4.3 mile northern loop. Overnight backpacking is allowed along the trail. Although there is a designated backpack campsite, required for groups of 7 or more, hikers are allowed to camp anywhere along the trail. They must be at least 100 feet off of the path, and at least ¼ mile from the trailhead. Campfires are prohibited, and no water is available along the trail. Plan to bring a cooking stove and drinking water. Horses are also allowed along the trail, and the parking area can accomodate several large trailers.

Swimming Deer Trail

    Description
  • Beginning near the east end of the campground, this trail follows along the Big River for a while, then climbs up out of the valley for some beautiful views of the valley below. An old lead surface mining area can also be seen along the trail.
