About McGee Creek

At the southwestern edge of the Ouachita Mountains, in southeastern Oklahoma, lies McGee Creek Reservoir. The lake has approx. 3,800 surface acres and 64 miles of shoreline, and is in one of the the most remote and scenic areas of Oklahoma. Recreation areas around the lake include the 8,900-acre McGee Creek Natural Scenic Recreation Area, 10,000 acres of Wildlife Management Area, and the 2,600-acre McGee Creek State Park.

McGee Creek State Park offers plenty of recreational activities in and around the lake, including water activites, camping, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, hunting, canoeing and kayaking.

The lake offers trophy fishing opportunities for smallmouth bass, crappie, perch, channel catfish and sunfish, while the Wildlife Management Area is stocked with crow, deer, dove, quail, rabbit, squirrel, turkey, waterfowl and more. Boaters, canoeists and kayakers have plenty of boat ramps to choose from to access the waters. In the Natural Scenic Recreation Area, over 25 miles of trails will keep hikers, backpackers, mountain bikers and equestrain riders entertained for hours or even days.

For overnight visitors, camping at McGee Creek State Park is available year-round. Three camping areas offer 41 semi-modern RV sites and 60 primitive tent sites. Comfort stations provide restrooms and showers. Also available are eight lake huts, for those seeking a little more comfort. These rustic huts are 12-ft x 24-ft and include a back porch overlooking the lake, bunk beds, a fireplace and air conditioning. Linens are not provided. Water service and barbecue grills are available outside each hut.

For pricing and availability of the lake huts, campground or other facilities, please call or email the park directly. The contact information is listed above.
